WE MUST NOT FEEL SORRY FOR OTHER` STATE.
We have accepted the fact that each individual is unique. The factors like the parents for whom we are born, the environment in which we have been brought up and the place where we will live etc etc have an effect on us and shape our personality. All these factors are literally not under our control.
Hindus strongly believe the actions and deeds of our past lives i.e. karma also have an effect on the state of our present lives. Without this logical belief of existence of a past life it will be difficult to explain so many unfortunate tragic happenings in present life. So, for the time being, we will accept that there is a past life from which we carry the essence and fruits of our good and the bad deeds. The contradictory factors like rich and poor, healthy and unhealthy, wise and unwise literate and illiterate exists in the society for us to see.
Have we tried to analyze the reasons behind these varying position, place, health for different individuals? This difference though termed as superficial by most of the philosophers, is here to stay and cause positive or negative ripples and differences in the society.
Society must be made up of many elements for doing the various task. In the Vedic period the society was divided into four based on the professions or the work that was carried. Brahmana, kshatriya vaishya shudra were the four divisions necessary for forming a healthy society. This system is definitely not the caste system propounded in the nasty and widely deplored Manu Smriti. The Vedas place very little importance on the caste system, mentioning caste only once (in the Purush Sukta) out of tens of thousands of verses. The caste system served well as a form of division of labour in which each individual had a role to play according to his mental and physical endowments to ensure uninterrupted continuity in the provision of the needed services and goods. The very fact that the famous Chinese visitor who visited India before the 15th century never recorded any division as is being followed now proves that the present hereditary caste system creeped somewhere much after that.
Now we will go a step further and try to see the logic behind this division. Spreading of Knowledge, protection of society, engaging in Business, trade and cleaning and upkeep were identified as the necessary constituents to form a healthy and responsible society. The cycle of flow of energy was complete with the four divisions of the society. Brahmana was assigned the task of imparting of knowledge to those worthy of it , Kshatriya was assigned the task of protection of the society who was expected to be mighty in physical energy, vaishya the task of carrying out business and trade with other components of society and shudra the task of physical cleaning and upkeep of surroundings and environment. These four identified works, if done properly, was to lead in a healthy and self contained society. Anyone doing the work of updating and spreading of knowledge has to be called as brahmana and likewise. The little neglect of anyone of this work would cause imbalance in the society and the system would collapse.
All the work done in the modern world can be classified into these four divisions. If everyone wants to only better and increase their knowledge then we may feel short of the people who can protect the society. The division of the society has to be necessarily and compulsorily based on the work that is done by them. A soldier who does his work has to be called a kshatriya only and not a professor who can be called as a brahmana. Can we imagine a world where there is no business or no cleaning?
Can a professor feel proud of his job at the cost of demeaning the job of a soldier who is inturn protecting the professor’s life? Silly it appears! Or for that matter can a cleaner feel proud and indispensable about his job when there are no people to propogate knowledge. Of course this is also silly. Each wing of the society is so much interdependent on the other, that a small neglect by a cleaner can spread contageous diseases and cause the death of all professors in the society.
Likewise does the professor has the right to feel sorry for the cleaner who cleans the streets where this professor lives? Definitely not. The cleaner is assigned the job by the society. We will not say society we will call almighty. The almighty wanted to clean the streets where the professor lives so that the professor can be healthy and spread knowledge more efficiently. In the same way the almighty has assigned the professor the job of teaching the cleaner the good and bad things to follow and live the life happily. Can the salary be the only factor to decide as to whether the person is happy or not. Leave money and everyone will know that the cleaner is more happy and will have a better sleep than the professor. Then ?????? Sir MV had told that the sweeper has to feel happy about his job and be so dedicated that he must keep the street he has assigned the best cleaned street in the world. each one in the society must be eternally dedicated about the job assigned to him.
Each person, as per the laws of Hindu philosophy, has multiple births. The good and the bad virtues done in the present life are carried to the next life and decide the place where he will discharge the duties assigned to him by the almighty. The bad virtues may have an effect on the way and place he is born. He may have some problems by birth. That is his karma. Can we feel sorry for a person, without knowing his past deeds, who is born without proper hands and legs. Will it be correct to say that god has done injustice to him when we do not know what good or bad he did in his present life leave alone past life? Is it not blasphemy to feel sorry about anyone without knowing what he did in his past life or at least in his present life? By feeling sorry for him we are expressing regret on the acts of the principle of cosmos or the God. Helping him as per our might is different attitude which again depends on so many other factors in the giver and takers life.we know that generally people who have less give more and vise versa.
Everything in this world is as per the principles of the Cosmos. OK we will call it as God’s wish. Feeling sorry for the state of anyone or the state of a person is telling that God made a mistake and he did not discharge his duties properly. Can that be true? Definitely not.
So we do not have any right to feel sorry for anyone’s state or duty because there may be someone who can feel sorry about us. Accept the rules of the cosmos and be happy. Purandara had told "O mind why are you tensed, God will look after everyone... who gave water and good to the small plant at the top of the mountain....
